San Bernardino, CA -Lake Arrowhead’s Citizen of the Year has received another distinguished honor.

Neale Perkins has been honored by the Cal State San Bernardino Philanthropic Foundation board for his years of service to the board and generosity to the university.

Cal State San Bernardino’s new President, Tomás D. Morales, made a special presentation to Perkins during a board meeting December 13, on the CSUSB campus.

PRESIDENT MORALES’ REMARKS

He has served on the board since 1997, and throughout he has provided remarkable leadership,” Morales stated in a media release issued following the presentation. “In fact, the success of the board is in large part due to Neale’s stewardship.”.

Morales also praised Perkins and his wife, Patricia, for opening up their Lake Arrowhead estate “Belle Maison”  for fund-raisers for Cal State San Bernardino. The couple has hosted the university’s major fund-raising event for many years for CSUSB students who live in the local mountain communities.

Perkins also led the Mountain Communities Scholarship Committee which, over a seven-year period, raised nearly $600,000 and awarded 200 scholarships to nearly 110 students.

Through their volunteer efforts, Neale and Patricia Perkins have been credited for strengthening the bonds between Cal State San Bernardino and residents of the San Bernardino mountain communities who wish to pursue a college degree.

EXTRAORDINARY COMMITMENT TO CSUSB

Neale and his wife, Patricia, are wonderful friends of Cal State San Bernardino,” Morales continued. “Neale’s commitment to the campus is, in one word, extraordinary.”

Typical of his leadership style, Perkins challenged board members to become involved at the university: guest lecturing in a class, mentoring students, creating internships at their businesses and assisting with fund-raising for scholarships and other priorities.

Perkins was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Cal State San Bernardino in 2008 for his efforts and generosity.
