UPDATE – Saturday, December 15 – 4:12 a.m.
Running Springs, CA – Snow Valley opens at 8 a.m. on today (Saturday, December 15).
While the Running Springs and Snow Valley area received the most snow of any of the local mountain communities, the heavy snowfall caused issues with Edison’s 33,000 volt main power line to Snow Valley as heavy snow covered trees fell onto the line. Due to this situation, Snow Valley’s plant is not operating at full capacity and lifts 6 and 13 will open for the season on Saturday morning with full resort services including rentals, lessons, snow play and food venues.
Snow Valley hopes to resume snow-making and have the ability to open additional lifts as soon as full power is restored to the facility.
“We’ve been blessed with great snow and despite the challenges,” Vice President of Marketing Kevin Somes told ROTWNEWS, “we look forward to opening on Saturday morning as well as begin celebrating our 75th anniversary season.”
In operation in 1937, Snow Valley offers back-country skiing and snowboarding terrain on Slide Peak, freestyle terrain parks including The EDGE, Park Avenue Progression Park and Hideout Jib Park, a fantastic Learning Center, trails for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, plus Southern California’s only chairlift serviced Snow Play area.
