San Bernardino, CA – The trial of Travis William May, 22, on vehicular manslaughter charges has been delayed again.

The trial is now set to begin on Tuesday, February 24, 2013. May is charged with three felonies related to death of Mountain Fifes & Drums co-founder Kevin Garland, 48, on May 4 of last year on Highway 18, according to court documents. May’s Ford F-250 vehicle was traveling southbound on Highway 18 when it collided with Garland’s Jeep Wrangler, San Bernardino Police Department documents show. Garland, a resident of Twin Peaks, was pronounced dead on-scene.

The charges against May are gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs causing bodily injury and driving under the influence .08 alcohol: causing bodily injury.

VACATED TRIAL DATES

Three previous scheduled trial dates — September 24, 2012. October 29, 2012, and January 14, 2013 — were vacated for a variety of reasons, along with pre-trial hearings and trial readiness hearings.

For example, the October 29 trial date was vacated at the request of May’s attorney Charles Smith. No reason was stated in court documents. However, there had been several attempts to settle the case with a plea bargain offered by the District Attorney’s office.

IN CUSTODY

May is in custody at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino with bail established at $350,000.
