Big Bear, CA - Get a beautiful feelin’ by trying out for the summer production of OKLAHOMA!
C.A.T.S. (Community Arts Theater Society) will hold auditions for principal parts and understudies on Saturday (February 16) and Sunday (February 17) for OKLAHOMA that will begin its 12-show run in June. All auditions must have appointments, which can be made thru Melinda Garcia at email@example.com
OKLAHOMA! will begin rehearsals on May 11, and be staged at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center June 21-July 7. Director/Choreographer Karen Sargent Rachels is also looking for dancers of all ages for major specific parts in this production. She is setting aside time at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, for all interested dancers to meet at the C.AT.S. House, located at 1117 West Big Bear Boulevard in Big Bear City and discuss the show. All those with specialty “western” talents like rope swinging, clogging and square dancing are also asked to come to this meeting.
Persons interested in being in the OKLAHOMA! cast and chorus are asked to come to the first rehearsal and orientation on Saturday, May 11, at 1 p.m. at the C.A.T.S. Warehouse Theater in Big Bear City. There are many small parts which will be cast from these choruses. Children of all ages will be welcome in this production. Parents or care givers must accompany the children. Strong dancers and strong singers are needed for this classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical comedy.
Prior stage experience is not necessary to participate in C.A.T.S., only the willingness to commit to the project and have a good time.
Principal parts and understudies in Oklahoma! which will be auditioned on February 16 and 17 are:
LAUREY: leading lady; good soprano voice with range to High A; (Sing People Will Say We’re in Love and Many A New Day)
CURLY Understudy: leading man, good baritone voice (Sing People Will Say We’re In Love)
AUNT ELLER: (feisty middle aged character actress who can sing and move)
ADO ANNIE: (young, innocent- but- bold character lady) singer/dancer (Sing I Cain’t Say No)
WILL PARKER: (exuberant naive cowboy) strong dancer who can sing (Sing Kansas City)
ALI HAKIM: (the peddler-man) – comic, character actor who can sing and move
GERTIE CUMMINGS: (actress, attractive young woman with annoying laugh)
JUD: (moody, dangerous farm hand)
ANDREW CARNES: (Ado’s father), character actor who can sing
IKE SKIDMORE: (rancher) who can sing
CORD ELAM: (the Sheriff), sings a little.
Scripts and sheet music are available prior to the audition thru Melinda Garcia.
OKLAHOMA! will be produced, directed and choreographed by Karen Sargent Rachels, with Joanne McMaster designing the sets and lighting and Priscilla Anderson as Costume Designer.
