Lake Arrowhead, CA – A Celebration of Jake Pilkerton’s Life will be held at Church of the Woods on Tuesday, August 13, at 3 p.m.

Pilkerton, a 2009 graduate of Rim of the World High School and baseball player for the CSUSB Coyotes, died Saturday morning following a head-on collision on Highway 18 south of Upper Waterman Canyon Road.

San Bernardino,  CA – Friends and family of 22-year-old Jacob Pilkerton posted countless comments on Facebook about the young man who died Saturday morning on Highway 18 south of Upper Waterman Canyon Road.

San Bernardino Police investigators report Pilkerton was northbound on Highway 18, lost control just after a curve, crossed into the southbound number two lane, and struck a southbound tractor-trailer.

CalTrans, California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Police closed the roadway most of Saturday to conduct the investigation.

San Bernardino, CA – The San Bernardino County Coroner has released the name of the driver of the 2004 Toyota Scion as Jacob Pilkerton, 22, from Lake Arrowhead.

Highway 18 was closed during the investigation of the accident. San Bernardino Police report Pilkerton was northbound on Highway 18 south of Upper Waterman Canyon Road, lost control just after a curve, crossed into the southbound number two lane, and struck a southbound tractor-trailer.

San Bernardino, CA – At 1:54 p.m., the San Bernardino Police Department informed CalTrans and the California Highway Patrol that the closure of Highway 18 may last another two hours.

A detour is available.

UPDATE – Saturday, August 3 – 11:55 a.m.

San Bernardino, CA – San Bernardino Police are investigating a fatal crash on Highway 18 in the area of Upper Waterman Canyon Road. CalTrans and the California Highway Patrol closed the roadway so officers could conduct the investigation diverting traffic to Old Waterman Canyon Road.

The incident — involving a late model Toyota Scion and a tractor-trailer — was reported about 8:35 a.m. The driver and sole occupant of the Scion was pronounced dead at the scene by San Bernardino City Fire personnel. The name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The condition of the driver of the truck was not immediately available.

Officers on the scene reported the initial investigation indicated that the Scion was driving north on the highway and apparently crossed over into the southbound lanes and collided with a tractor-trailer.

ORIGINAL STORY

Waterman Canyon – The California Highway Patrol is reporting a possible fatality on Highway 18 near Upper Waterman Canyon Road involving a small compact and semi-truck.

Highway 18 has been closed in both directions with traffic being diverted onto Old Waterman Canyon Road. The roadway is expected to be closed about four (4) hours.

The incident was reported shortly after 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
