Big Bear Lake, CA – In 2015 during her Academy Award acceptance speech, actress Patricia Arquette brought new attention to the gender gap and has since started a petition for the passage the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
Contestants in an upcoming AAUW Speech Trek Contest will discuss how the ERA was introduced in Congress in 1923. They will speak about how there have been several attempts to ratify it in 1972, 1978, and 1982 and how it has never been put into law.
