VETERANS DAY 2017 OBSERVANCES – Update 1 – Friday November 10

Mountain Communities – Residents and visitors in the mountain communities come together at various events on Saturday, November 11, to remember, honor and show their gratitude to U.S. veterans and active military of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Fore, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

COMMUNITY OBSERVANCES

BIG BEAR LAKE – This year, along with paying tribute to and thanking every veteran, they will be honoring Gold Star Family members with the dedication of a marker at Big Bear Lake’s Veterans Park. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at Veteran’s Park and all are welcome and invited to attend.

The keynote speaker again this year will be Colonel Sidney W. Melton. Melton is commander of the 916th Support Brigade at Fort Irwin.

All Big Bear Valley residents are encouraged to attend.

The dual Veterans Day and Gold Star Memorial Dedication Ceremony will take place at Veterans Park on Saturday November 11th beginning at 11 a.m.

LAKE ARROWHEAD The chains at Arrowhead Ridge will be removed Friday November 10 at 2:00 p.m.  This will provide easier access to disabled Veterans and the public at large,.  The 11 a.m. ceremony — scheduled for Arrowhead Ridge in Grass Valley vets-monument — will be hosted by V.F.W. Post 9624, V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Post 360 and San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust.

Mountain Fife and Drum will participate in the posting of the colors. Quilts of Valor will be presented to local Veterans by members of local Quilts of Valor Chapter.

Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Choir will lead the singing of service branch songs.

Arrowhead Ridge is located at 353 Grass Valley Road, between Club House Drive and Country Club Road. The Ceremony begins at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 11.

Free remote parking will be available at Alpine Camp and Conference Center at 415 Club House Drive with shuttle service provided by Mountain Transit.

RUNNING SPRINGS Running Springs will celebrate Veterans Day with a flag raising ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at the flag pole in town, located at the cross streets of Holiday Lane and Highway 18, across from Neo’s Pizza.

Joan Mosley will lead the brief service and flag raising. The Ceremony is sponsored by the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce. For additional information, call (909) 867-2411
