Mountain Communities – For most Martin Luther King, Jr. Day represents a day off. But for many American it also represents a National Day of Service – a “day on.”
This year, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service – January 16 – is a part of United We Serve, the President’s national call to service in observance of King’s legacy. The federal legislation was signed into law in 1994 by President Bill Clinton.
THIS YEAR SHARE IN KING’S LEGACY
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’”
Below are scheduled closings in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:
BANKS – Financial institutions will be closed on Monday, January 16.
CALTRANS – There are no planned lane closures
CITY OF BIG BEAR LAKE – City offices will be closed January 16.
COURTS – All San Bernardino County Courthouses will be closed January 16.
MAIL DELIVERY – There will be no mail delivery on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
STATE/COUNTY OFFICES – State and county offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.
TRANSPORTATION – Mountain Transit offices will be closed January 16. Visit MOUNTAIN TRANSIT online for schedule details.
TRASH PICK-UP – Trash pick-up may be delayed one day. Check with your local provider.
SCHOOLS – Rim of the World Unified School District and Bear Valley Unified School District campuses will be closed. California State University San Bernardino will also be closed.
