Mountain Communities – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a federal holiday which has been observed since the 1980’s. Government offices and schools are closed in honor of the fallen civil rights leader and champion of nonviolence.

MLK LogoIt’s also a National Day of Service. Make it a day on and not a day off.


Below are scheduled closings in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:

BANKS – Financial institutions will be closed on Monday, January 16.

CALTRANS – There are no planned lane closures.

CITY OF BIG BEAR LAKE – City offices will be closed January 16.

COURTS –  All San Bernardino County Courthouses will be closed January 16.

MAIL DELIVERY – There will be no mail delivery on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

STATE/COUNTY OFFICES – State and county offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.

TRANSPORTATION – Mountain Transit offices will be closed January 16. Visit MOUNTAIN TRANSIT online for schedule details.

TRASH PICK-UP – Trash pick-up may be delayed one day. Check with your local provider.

SCHOOLS – Rim of the World Unified School District and Bear Valley Unified School District campuses will be closed. California State University San Bernardino will also be closed.
