Mountain Communities – Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol urge motorists utilizing state highways in the San Bernardino mountains to BE PREPARED and always carry chains and emergency supplies in their vehicles.
Visitors should also bring trash bags to deposit their trash and take back home after their visit to the mountain communities.

CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM 1 MILE EAST OF FOREST FALLS JUNCTION TO THE JUNCTION OF HIGHWAY 18 AT BIG BEAR DAM
IS CLOSED FROM THE JUNCTION OF I-15 TO 3 MILES WEST OF THE JUNCTION OF HIGHWAY 173 DUE TO A ROCK SLIDE. MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE
