Big Bear – Want to lend a hand? Be a “Pink Lady” or “Pink Man!” The Auxiliary at Bear Valley Community Hospital is putting out a call for volunteers, and all interested women and men are urged to apply!
The Auxiliary is a volunteer organization that assists with daily operations at the hospital, as well as organizing fund raising efforts to benefit the Hospital District. Auxiliary staff mans the front desk, runs the used book shop and gift shop in the hospital lobby, assists in the ER waiting area during busy winter months, and assists with the residents in the on-site Skilled Nursing Facility.
The group oversees two major fund raising events each year. The “Hot and Saucy Night” each July, featuring a tasting of food and drink from featured local restaurants, and the annual “Mall In The Hall” in December, offering handmade crafts and merchandise from local stores, just in time for Christmas gifts.
Through its fund-raising efforts, the Auxiliary provides scholarships to graduating Big Bear High School students and provides monetary assistance with medication costs to residents in the Skilled Nursing Facility, as well as raising funds for the purchase of needed items for the hospital.
In 2015, the BVCHD Auxiliary donated $80,000 to the hospital for the purchase of a digital mammography machine, and recently provided new and improved wheelchairs, reclining chairs and low back chairs for improved comfort for patients and visitors.
Anyone interested in volunteering should pick up an application from the Auxiliary staff , Monday through Friday, in the lobby of Bear Valley Community Hospital, 41870 Garstin Dr, Big Bear Lake, (909) 866-6510
