Lake Arrowhead, CA – On Saturday March 18, 2017 the Soroptimists International of Rim of the World celebrated 40 years of service to the mountain communities at the Burnt Mill Beach. The event was well attended, with both current and past members present. Andrea Hilton, a founding member, was the chair of the event. Marie Seybold, also a founding member, former President, and Regional Governor, gave an overview of the history of the club.
Soroptimists International Rim of the World has raised and gifted well over $100,000 for many community – based organizations. The list is very diverse and long.
Making a Difference for Women Awards
Ruby Award: This award honors women who have worked to improve the lives of women and girls through their professional and/or volunteer work
Live Your Dream Award: Assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.
Violet Richardson Award: The award is given to young women whose activities make the community and world a better place.
Provides free mammograms for eight women. As of 2016 – 333 women have been provided free mammograms.
Annual Breast Friends: Artful Bra Challenge
This program is to raise awareness about breast cancer. Decorated bras are voted on and the ballots are sold for $1 each. The decorated bras are also available for sale.
Tunes and Tatas
This afternoon event is a celebration, music and camaraderie for all of those who have personal connection to breast cancer, or wish to ensure early detection by raising funds for those who cannot afford a mammogram.
