Arson suspect has been arrested. After an extensive search by law enforcement Benjamin Andrew Baptiste, 27 was located on the side of Highway 18 within half  a mile of Old Mormon Road and taken into custody. He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on multiple counts of arson.

Original Story

Crestline – Vegetation fire at Crestline Bridge. Reported to be multiple spot fires. Bridge Fire is approximately 1/4 acre. Accessing the fire is difficult — holding at 1-2 acres.

Calfire just issued a life safety alert suspect is possibly driving down-bound Hwy 18 armed with a rifle. Police and helicopters looking for a suspect related to the Bridge Fire. Last seen Hwy 18, just below the incident, possibly armed.

Fire is now 3 fires — 1 at 1/2 acres, 1 at 2 acres and a 3rd at 3 acres.

Bridge Incident Commander is requesting 3 additional water tenders to respond to the incident.

Engines from the Cleveland National Forest and Angeles National Forest are in route.

Arson suspect is described as white male with blond hair, was last seen in the area of the Bridge Fire.  Suspect may be armed.

Highway 18 is closed at Sierra Ave at the bottom of the mountain.

As of 9:58 p.m. – fire crews have stopped the forward rate of spread of the Bridge Fire.

10:11 p.m. Per fire crews continue to make slow progress on the Bridge fire and are keeping it below Hwy 18.

Law enforcement has the suspect in custody that is suspected in the Bridge Fire.
