Summer at the Big Bear Discovery Center

Fawnskin, CA – The non-profit Southern California Mountains Foundation is pleased to announce its 2017 summer activity schedule at The Big Bear Discovery Center . ” We have lots of fun activities going on all summer long, here at the Big Bear Discovery Center. All of our programs are designed for family fun, and many of then are low cost or FREE” said Wendy Craig, the manager of the Center.


Activities include; kayak and canoe eco-tours, campfire talks, nature walks, geocaching, map and compass classes, nature crafts, night hikes, bird house building, story time, gold panning, an adventure race, rocket building and our famous Music in the Mountain series, which will feature the best classic rock and country tribute shows available nationally, with a six-show schedule.


The Big Bear Discovery Center is located at 40971 North Shore Dr./ Highway 38, Fawnskin, CA.

Center hours are:

Open: Saturday & Sunday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Monday, Thursday & Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Closed: Tuesday & Wednesday


The Southern California Mountain Foundation is seeking highly motivated and energetic people to assist with the interpretive and education  program at the Big Bear Discovery Center. These jobs are being offered through SCMF’s Urban Conservation Corps (UCC), which offers young men and women (18-25 years old) the chance to serve in the local mountain and work in environmental conservation setting, which will assist in job readiness.

Current employment opportunities include; Customer Service Representative, Forrest Resource Monitor, Discovery Center Recycling Coordinator and Custodian, and multiple Corps-member positions to lead nature walks and eco-tours.
