At 4:00 p.m. May 23, 2017 a vegetation fire was reported in the 800 block of Great Spirits Way, Big Bear Lake. The fire is being called the Knickerbocker fire.

Big Bear Lake units were able to see smoke from their station.  At 4:06 p.m. the fire was a 20 x 20 foot spot fire.  They were unable to gauge rate of speed at that time.

At 4:12 p.m. a command center was set up at Big Bear Elementary School. 4:15 p.m. water is being put on the fire and is a 50 x 50 foot spot fire with medium rate of spread.

A more specific location for the fire is 2No8 just above the Knickerbocker Mansion.

4:19 p.m. canceling aircraft response. Forest Service is reporting a knockdown of the fire.

4:58 p.m. Size revised down to 30 x 30 foot fire. Point of origin located and taped off. Investigator enroute to the incident.
