New Sports Programs for Kids Coming to the Mountain Communities

By Susan A. Neufeld

Mountain Communities – The Rim of the World Recreation and Parks announces a new sports program for children. The new program is Sportball — for children from 2 – 14 years of age.

Sportball is a program with 8 different ball sports and is designed to focus on having and increasing self-esteem and gross motor development. The program provides the opportunity for younger kids to try new things, to repeat and refine skills, and grow without the element of competition. ” Competition will come for all children, whether in formal league or a playground setting”, said Derek Morrison Franchise Owner and Program Director for Sportball in the Inland Empire.

Sport ball provides the basic concepts and skills behind 8 popular sports (Tennis, Baseball, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Golf, and Hockey). Programs are carefully designed to focus on the development and balance, strength, coordination, stamina and timing — through professional instruction and positive encouragement, using age appropriate sized equipment.

Sportball is now available to families through the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District. The Summer Kick Off Mini Session program starts July 24th and goes through August 16th with the 2-9 age group for multi-sport and soccer activities.  The official program will begin in the fall, for ages 2 to 14 years. This includes after-school sports activities at MPH for middle school-aged participants. Registration, class descriptions and schedules can be found at the Park District Office at 26577 State Hwy 18, Rimforest, CA, or  you can visit they’re website at You can also call the Park District Office for more information, (909) 337-7275.
