Veterans Day Closures Across the Mountain

Mountain Communities – Veterans Day – Saturday November 11 – is a federal holiday which honors people who have served in armed services, also known as veterans.



In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words:

“To us in America the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from  which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”



The Veterans Day observances will impact several services in the mountain communities:

BANKS – Financial institutions will be closed Friday, November 10.

CITY OF BIG BEAR LAKE – City offices will be closed Friday, November 10.

COURTS –  All San Bernardino County Courthouses will be closed Friday, November 10

MAIL DELIVERY – There will be no mail delivery on Saturday, November 11.

STATE/COUNTY OFFICES – State and county offices will be closed in observance of the holiday on Friday, November 10.

TRASH PICK-UP – Trash pick-up may be delayed one day, check with your provider.

SCHOOLS – Rim of the World Unified School District and Bear Valley Unified School District campuses will be closed Friday, November 10. California State University San Bernardino will also be closed Friday, November 10.

TRANSPORTATION – Mountain Transit (MARTA) – regular schedule. METROLINK will operate on its regular schedule.
