Mountain Communities – Special Olympics Southern California Inland Empire, serving all of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, is proud to announce its newest Local Program in the Rim Mountain Communities.

Stacy Fish, Program Specialist, Special Olympics Southern California, shares: “The Local Program serves children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Athletes must be at lease 8 years of age to train and compete. There is no age limit on the top end, with many competing until the age of 80.”

“We welcome the Rim Mountain Communities as they join our family, the world’s largest movement serving individuals with intellectual disabilities,” said Abbey Leffler, Special Olympics California Regional Director.

Rim Mountain Communities Special Olympics Local Program, spanning from Valley of Enchantment to Green Valley Lake, is now a proud member of Special Olympics Southern California- Inland Empire Region, owing to the Rim of the World Recreation and Parks District taking on the responsibility to coordinate this endeavor. “We are incredibly  honored to partner with the Special Olympics Southern California and the world’s largest movement to provide our mountain residents with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to train and compete in the Special Olympics,” said Karen Reams, General Manager, Rim of the World Recreation and Park District.

“We wish to thank the Rim Recreation and Park District for continuing the proud legacy of the residents and businesses of the members of the Lake Arrowhead Mountain Communities. We could not have taken on this singular opportunity to have a Special Olympics Local Program, and to be Host Town for the largest humanitarian and athletic event since the 1984 Olympic Games, in 2015, without their support.” said Poly Sauer, Volunteer, Local Program Coordinator, responsible for overseeing all operations of the  Rim Mountain Communities local Program.

Rim Mountain Communities Special Olympics Local Program will be offering a Spring Sport Season 2018 training in Athletics Track and Field each week from February 1 through June 10.
