Crestline, CA -Welcome to the Lake Gregory Education/Community Center. The Rim of the World Unified School District and Rim of the World Recreation and Park District, after extensive planning and negotiations, have come up with a joint use agreement that allows the Park District to open up the facility located at 24740 San Moritz Way, Crestline,CA 92325, for community use.
The Park District is planning an Open House on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.. They are welcoming community input on future classes for toddlers through seniors. Sports programs and activities of all kinds will be welcome. Please share your ideas with them, take a tour, and enjoy a snack.
CENTRALIZED LOCATION, VARIOUS AMENITIES & FIELD USE IMPROVEMENTS
The Park District is excited to open the center, located near the lake, as a comfortable home base for people to safely recreate, hold meetings, and put on their events.
The joint use agreement currently includes partial use of the building, which consists of a 6,000 square-foot gymnasium/multipurpose room that can host; basketball games, volleyball games and 300 people for banquet-style seating or 700 people for conference-style seating. This room also includes a stage for productions, award shows, and various events. The Park District is also occupying the full culinary/cafeteria-size kitchen and 3 multipurpose activity/fitness rooms. The outdoor space includes bathrooms, basketball courts, handball courts, and a combination softball/baseball/soccer field that will accommodate a good majority of both youth and adult sports.
The Lake Gregory Education Center has been sitting empty for 3 years. In order to operate and service the Rim communities, the Park District Board of Directors approved a budget of $85,000 to prepare the building inside and make necessary improvements for the outdoor sports area. The Park District has set a tentative opening date of March 1, 2018 for selective recreational programs, and a tentative Grand Opening date for full public use that will be announced in April 2018.
“It’s important for the entire Rim mountain community to come and voice what type of community center they want to see here. We are excited to open the doors and offer this school district property. Projects like this take time, as it involves establishing relationships, coming to compromises, and dedication. For our small Park District providing services and facilities for our grand mountain community, this is a huge deal, a great foundation for the future, and positive one too!” said Karen Reams, Rim of the World Recreation and Park District Genera Manager.
PAST & FUTURE
Since the County of San Bernardino turned the Lake Gregory Ball Fields over to the California Parks Company, after the properties had been maintained by the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District for 25 years, including improvements to the facility and utility costs the Park District Board Members and staff have not let up in their search for a park facility to provide continued services in the Crestline Community
The Park District is still pressing for new facilities, land acquisition, and other possible venues for growth, but in the meantime the Park District has provided a solution to provide services in the Crestline area by partnering with the School District and opening and existing facility (LGEC) and outdoor (sports) space.
