Lake Arrowhead, CA – Each year year the Chamber of Commerce honors exceptional contributions to our community through our businesses, charities and Citizens. Award winners are selected based on review of nominations. This years winners are: Citizen of the Year, David Caine, Business of the year, Snow Valley Mountain Resort and Non-profit of the year Rim of the World Historical Society.
The selection committee consists of former award winners and Chamber Executive Committee members. The nominating committee receives many nominations of qualified candidates and makes selection based on the criteria for the award. The criteria calls for a constant history of contributions and/or constant business operation in our Mountain Communities.
CITIZEN OF THE YEAR – David Caine
David is an active volunteer in many areas of our communities. He serves on Citizens on Patrol, and previously served as a member of the MAC (Municipal Advisory Council), later as a commissioner on the Behavioral Health Commission, appointed by Supervisor Rutherford. He actively attends GAC (Government Affairs Committee) and Mountain Mutual Aid meetings and is a member of Mountain-CERT(Community Emergency Response Team). David also spearheaded and leads current effort to influence the FAA to reroute airplanes; creating the “Quiet Skies” movement.
BUSINESS OF THE YEAR – Snow Valley Mountain Resort
Snow Valley Mountain Resort is celebrating it’s 80th year of operation. Snow Valley employs nearly 400 people in the high season, and many mountain resident fondly recall how their children gained valuable work experience in the snow seasons at Snow Valley. Snow Valley is active in supporting the communities, always donating to local causes and organizations wherever possible. Snow Valley was named “Southern California’s #1 Family-Friendly Resort”(#3 in all of California) according to Liftopia’s 2016-2017 Best in Snow Awards.
NONPROFIT OF THE YEAR – Rim of the World Historical Society
Rim of the World Historical Society was founded in 1986 as the Crestline Historical Society, the organization is dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing the history of the San Bernardino Mountain communities.
Many volunteers have taken key roles over the lat 10 years to secure a building, renovate and landscape it, organize and operate a collection, as well as design and install exhibits within the Mountain History Museum, which is open to the public. Visitors from many states and countries visit the museum each year. The Society sponsors the annual Antique & Classic Wooden Boat Show, Tunnel Tours and narrated Celebrity Cruises on the Arrowhead Queen, along with frequent speakers and films.
The Chamber Awards Recognition Ceremony will be held Friday, March 23, 2018, at the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa. This is the Chamber’s 50th Annual Chamber Awards, and they are celebrating their golden anniversary with a look back at 50 years of Award Winners, 50 years of major contributions to our Communities. This year’s Awards Gala Celebration promises to be an exciting event, filled with entertainment, dancing and joy.
