San Moritz Way to be Widened to Allow for Two-Way Traffic

By Susan A. Neufeld

Crestline, CA – To accommodate and improve traffic flow during the construction of the Lake Gregory Dam Improvement Project, a one-way portion of San Moritz Way will be widened in order to accommodate two-way traffic.

“Reconfiguring San Moritz Way so it can accommodate two-way traffic will lessen the inconvenience to residents who depend on Lake Drive to access their property,” said County Supervisor Janice Rutherford. “Having it remain open to two-way traffic after construction is another long-term benefit to the community of Crestline coming from the retrofitting of the dam, along with the two new detention basins and the dredging of the lake.”

The new two-way configuration is necessary to accommodate motorists detoured due to work on the dam. At the crest of the dam, Lake Drive will occasionally be closed during construction, to allow for tucks and construction equipment. When Lake Drive is closed, one detour will be San Moritz Way, which is currently not open to two-way traffic below the Lake Gregory Community Center (formerly Lake Gregory Elementary School) through to the San Moritz Drive interchange.

After construction is complete, the road will remain in the county’s road maintenance system. The road will be temporarily closed beginning Wednesday, March 28, for approximately 60 days, to allow for the widening work.
