Big Bear DWP is Offering Their Turf By Back Program

By Susan A. Neufeld

Big Bear Lake, CA – The Big Bear Lake Department of Water and Power (DWP) will pay homeowners $0.50 a square foot to remove their turf.

They offer this to help save water, and you get paid. A new grant-funded State program may pay you an additional $1.50 per square foot.

You must contact DWP for a pre-inspection appointment to measure the existing lawn before removal. When the lawn is gone, DWP will come back and verify it’s been removed, verify the irrigation system has been removed, completely disabled or adequately re-purposed, and write you a check. All new landscape plans are subject to the Conservation Policy and may require approval before installation.

If you are a local resident you can dispose of the turf at the Big Bear Transfer Station from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The transfer station is located at 38550 Holcomb Valley Road, Big Bear.

For a complete schedule of Disposal fees call (909) 386-8701.

If possible, let the turf dry out before disposal.
